We sponsor high school juniors to attend Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State, at no cost to you.
Who We Are
We are the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Ohio Squadron #109 based in Montpelier, OH. Our squadron membership is comprised exclusively of former Buckeye Boys State counselors whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military.
Each year, we sponsor dozens of high school juniors from all across Ohio to attend the American Legion's Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State programs during the summer before their senior year. Selected students are able to attend for free thanks to the generous support of our members and community partners.
Our Programs
We partner with the American Legion to send dozens of high school juniors to Ohio's top leadership programs each summer, at no cost to you.
Buckeye Boys State
An eight-day hands-on experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio's government.
Buckeye Girls State
A week-long program designed to educate Ohio's young women in the duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of good citizenship.

Note from the Commander
My name is Shaun Loftin, and I am the Commander of the Sons of the American Legion Ohio Squadron #109. It's an honor to serve our 70+ members who invest thousands of volunteer hours into the Legion's Americanism programs each year.
As a former Buckeye Boys State delegate, I cannot thank the post that sponsored me enough for allowing me to attend the single most transformative leadership experience of my life.
On behalf of our entire squadron of former Buckeye Boys State delegates, we want to pay it forward by sponsoring your high school junior to attend Buckeye Boys State or Buckeye Girls State for free.
